Junior IPT’s a huge success!!!!!

The Weekends’ Junior Inter Provincial Tournament (JIPT) was hosted at the City Parks Sports grounds in Athlone by Western Cape Touch Association. The event was most definitely one of the best, with the standard of touch and refereeing at a very good level.

There were 3 teams that dominated most of the Tournament. Western Province played in 4 finals, but could only manage to win one. Northerns and Western Cape won 2 of the 3 finals they were invoved in.

The Boys u/21 section was a very close affair with only Northerns going unbeaten. They would end up winning the trophy for the second year in a row. The first game Northerns just edged Western Province. In the end it would again be these two teams to battle it out in the final. The top try scorer for the division was Jason Chlup from Northerns with 8 tries, and the MVP was Jarrid Gyori from Northerns. Final Standings:

3. Boland

4. Gauteng

5. Easterns

6. KZN

The Girls u/21 Section was very close. The KZN Girls won the competition. The top try scorer for this division was Caryn Mcalery from KZN with 7 tries, and the MVP was Nabeela Boltman from Western Province.Final Standings:

1. KZN

2. Western Province

The u/21 Mixed Section saw a brilliant Western Cape team dominate the division to clinch the final by 7-2 against Boland. In the league game Western Cape won 8-4. The top try scorer for this division was Tamsin Toontjie from Boland. The MVP was Yacoob Slamang from Western Cape. Final Standings:

2. Boland

3. Easterns

4. Soweto

The Boys u/19 Section was also very unpredictable with the Western Cape guys coming through in the end, just edging Western Province. The top try scorer was Tashrieq Mackenzie from Western Cape with 11 tries, and the MVP was Raeed Allie from Western Cape. Final Standings:

1. Western Cape

2. Western Province

3. Easterns

4. KZN

The Girls u/19 section was a very interesting section with Gauteng taking the honours. In the first game Gauteng just got the win over KZN by 3-4. They would face each other in the final were the Gauteng defense would be to strong for the girls from the coast. The top try scorer was Georgina Crisp from Gauteng and the MVP was Yolisa Nqonqoza from Easterns. Final Standings:

1. Gauteng

2. KZN

3. Easterns

4. Western Cape

The Boys u/17 Section was also very unpredictable with the Northerns guys coming through in the end, just edging Western Cape. The top try scorer was Christopher Rosie from Western Province with 12 tries, and the MVP was Brendon Nair from Easterns. Final Standings:

1. Northerns

2. Western Cape

3. WesternProvince

4. Gauteng

5. Easterns

6. Western Cape B

The Girls u/17 section was also pretty close and competitive. The Western Province team won this section, but they would get tough competition and had to work extremely hard. Western Province beat Northerns 2-5 in the final. The top try scorer was Lizabe Janse van Rensburg from Northerns and the MVP was Zandalee Pillay from Gauteng.

Well done to all players, referees, coaches and managers as well as the Western Cape Touch Association committee who organised an awesome event…
