Senior IPT’s a huge success!!!!!
The Weekends’ Senior Inter Provincial Tournament (SIPT) was hosted at the Willowridge High School by the Northerns Touch Association. The event was most definitely one of the best organised of recent times with the standard of touch and refereeing at a very good level.
The event was generally incident free which shows a definite improvement and general growth in the overall refereeing that was available…
Western Cape and Gauteng proved their all-round strength by taking part against each other in 3 of the 4 finals. It was however the Western Caper’s who showed their class by winning all 3 finals to take the overall Title.
The Mens Open section was a very close affair with each of the 8 teams losing at least one match before the Knock-outs. The surprise of the round games being the Gauteng win over Western Cape. In the end it would again be these two teams to battle it out in the final and this time the result would go in favour of Western Cape. The top try scorer for the division was Marvello Steenkamp from Boland with 9 tries, and the MVP was Armien Bailey from Boland. Final Standings:
1. Western Cape
2. Gauteng
3. Boland
4. Western Province
5. KZN
6. Northerns
7. Easterns
8. Soweto
The Ladies Section was very close and in the end it showed nothing can buy experience. The Western Province over 30’s ladies won the competition. The top try scorer for this division was Amy Barrett from Western Province with 11 tries. She also won the MVP for this division. Final Standings:
1. Western Province
2. Gauteng
3. Western Province
4. KZN
5. Easterns
6. Northerns
7. Western Cape
8. Soweto
The Mixed Section saw a brilliant comeback from Western Cape to clinch the final 4-3 against Gauteng. In the league game Gauteng won 9-5. The top try scorer for this division was Ivan van Rooyen from Gauteng. The MVP was Ruan Mouton from Boland. Final Standings:
1. Western Cape
2. Gauteng
3. Boland
4. Easterns
The Over 30’s Section was also very unpredictable with the Easterns guys coming through in the end, just edging KZN. The top try scorer was Riaan Raats from Easterns with 7 tries, and the MVP was Chris Greyling from Natal. Final Standings:
1. Easterns
2. KZN
3. Boland
4. Northerns
5. Western Province
Well done to all players, referees, coaches and managers as well as the Northerns committee who organised an awesome event…
