The Amazing Galaxy Warriors staged an impressive comeback into the All Gold Hot Summer of Touch Grand Prix race with an impressive win on the grass in Struisbaai.

The wind dropped to an absolute standstill and fire hot temperatures made conditions tough in the idyllic southern Cape Village.

31 teams took part in what has become a very competitive event and the Amazing Galaxy Warriors stood tall at the end of the day having a team from their club competing in the final of each of the 3 divisions, namely the Pro Series, the Open Tournament and the Under fifteen section.

The action went according to plan on the fields with the top four teams on the Grand Prix table all making it through to the Semi Finals…

In the first Semi Final, the Galaxy Warriors overcame a gallant Rabie Warrior Nomads with a try in sudden death extra time scored by club stalwart and ex Western Province wing Zaheer Rylands.

The other Semi Final saw the two table topping teams, the Reds and the Living Legends taking each other on in an epic match. The result finally going the Reds way in sudden death extra time by one to nil.

The Galaxy Warriors needed to win the final to have any chance of defending their overall title and they did just that coming from a try down to beat the Reds by two tries to one.

The result means that the top four teams on the log all have a mathematical chance of winning the series, it is likely however that the winner will come from either of the top two being the Reds and the Living Legends, given that the Galaxy Warriors would need both of the teams above them to not make the semis at as well as ensuring that they win at Stilbaai. The Drifters won the Open Tournament and the Galaxy Warriors under fifteen team won the junior section.

The action moves to the home of Touch Rugby “Stilbaai” on Boxing Day the 26th of December.

In 2 Touch and the All Gold Hot Summer of Touch Team would like to take this opportunity of wishing everyone a safe and happy Christmas!

REDS SHAKE IT UP AT CAMPS BAY

The Reds have won their maiden Hot Summer of Touch event with a great victory over the Living Legends in the final at Camps Bay.

The youthful Reds didn’t put a foot wrong all day, winning all their group games and after trailing in the final by two tries to one, they showed a growing confidence to equalise and push the game into sudden death extra time.

They then scored a great try to seal the win and take their first title in the three years they have been involved as a Pro Team.

The result will make many of the players and supporters of the series very happy, as the series still remains wide open, chairman of the Western and Southern Cape Beach Touch Association, Rian Myburgh had to say. “ Its great for the game that we have new blood challenging the old guard and I expect this will make the more established teams even hungrier to perform better over the remaining legs of the series.”

The Open series was also once again very keenly contested with the New Born Rebels narrowly beating the Drifters in the final, one- nil.

Another great feature on a beautiful day in Camps Bay was the eight under fifteen teams who had a ball. The competition was finally won by the New Born Squirrels. Overall, forty teams took part and after a long absence at Camps Bay, it is evident that this event has been sorely missed and looks likely to be back for the long haul.

The action moves to Struis Baai on Monday 23rd of December where the tournament takes place on grass, which adds a whole new dimension.

LIVING LEGENDS PUT MARKER IN THE SAND…

The Living Legends staged a great comeback in the final of the All Gold Hot Summer of Touch second leg on Monday to overcome the Reds by two tries to one. The Reds took an early lead in the game and showed why they are going to be a force to be reckoned with on this year’s series by holding the Legends up until half time.

After defeating the Amazing Galaxy Warriors by a three to nil margin in the Semi Finals, it was possibly a bridge to far for the Reds who were overpowered by the Legends in the second half, looking for their first win at Onrus since 2009.

With the municipality restricting the event to just one field, it was a long day for players and spectators alike, but everyone was treated to another spectacular event and the capacity 32 teams that took part did not disappoint.

The Pro’s played in the Open tournament format for the first time since 2008 and the closeness in some of the results was evidence of the quickly narrowing gap between the top 8 teams in the country and the rest. The top performing teams outside of the Pro Series were the Drifters and the New Born Rebels who actually defeated the Stor-Age Barbarians, a Pro Team, to take their place in the Quarter Finals.

The action moves to Camps Bay on Saturday
