RIP – Andre “Ammo” Centry 1994 – 2013

It is with great sadness that we have learned of the sudden and shock passing of Andre “Ammo” Centry…

Andre was a massive talent and was literally coming in to his own as a Touch player and all round person. His life has tragically been cut short and our sympathy and prayers go out to the Centry family at this sad time.

He played his touch in the Strand initially for the New Borne Rebels. He played for the Score Energy Warriors in 2010 and 2011 and returned to his home team of the New Born Rebels last year. Andre was this year picked to play in the Nomad Warriors team and big things were expected of him. The Touch world has been robbed of an enormous talent.

He died of a suspected heart attack at his home on Saturday. Funeral details will be forwarded as soon as they come available for anyone wishing to pay their respects…

Stunning Day In The Strand

Incredible day at the Strand!!!!

44 Teams registered to play at the first event of the All Gold Hot Summer of Touch at Strand Beach on Saturday. The weather was perfect and the huge crowd was not disappointed with the action on the beach!

With the Strand leg not having official “Pro Series” status, there was a great opportunity for some of the upcoming teams in the Touch Rugby community to test their skills against the best players in the game. The skill levels are so high across the board and this was evident with 3 of the Pro teams who entered the competition not making it to the Semi Finals.

A most notable result was the Drifters from Maccassar knocking out the reigning 3 times Strand Champions Living Legends in the quarter finals.

The day was ultimately won by the Amazing Galaxy Warriors who defeated the Reds in the final by two tries to nil. The Plate was won by the Suicide Monkeys and the Under 15 competition was won by the New Born Squirels who beat the Tribal Kingz Touchies in the final.

The series moves to Onrus on Monday. Please note there will not be any Under 15 section

Guiness World Record Attempt For Longest Touch Game

As part of the BOS Earthwave Beach Festival, a world record attempt of 28 hours for the longest game of touch rugby is about to attempted.

Date: 19/20 October 2013

Venue: Muizenburg beach

Time: 8am on Sat – 12pm on Sun

We are urgently needing players, physios, food and beverage donations and referees for next weekend’s record attempt. Should you also know of anyone who can video the entire attempt it would be appreciated. It is required to be fully documented in order to be an official attempt.

There are 4 TV production crews covering the Touch and Surfing record attempts!
