In a repeat of last years final, the Amazing Galaxy Warriors put in an accomplished display to turn the tables from 2011 on the Four Cousins Living Legends and put themselves firmly in the drivers seat for the 2012 Title.

32 Teams took part in the annual tournament and there was much up for grabs with the Agulhus Municipality providing R20 000 as Prize Money for the tournament.

There were a few surprises in the early games with the Score Energy Warriors as well as the Reds (both semi finalists in Onrus) not qualifying for the Quarterfinals.

The Amazing Galaxy Warriors however, stepped up to the plate and while they had a reletavely easy morning, they were made to fight against a spirited Quali Dwegies in the Semi Final. The Dwergies had a great chance to make their first final in a few seasons, and will be ruing a few missed opportunities this morning, which could have seen the AGW going home earlier than expected. The “Warriors however held on and beat the Dwergies 2-1 in an very exciting Sudden Death Extra time.

In the second Semi, the Four Cousins Living Legends comfortably beat the Hawaiian Blues to set up their second final in a row against AGW. They would have been confident of turning the tables on the Warriors having defeated them at this venue in 2011, however after losing against the same oponents a few days ago at Onrus, they would not have been complacent.

The Warriors fought hard and eventually beat the Legends 2-1 in the Sudden Death Extra Time…

The results from Struisbaai mean that only 2 teams are now able to win the Grand Prix. The Warriors however are very much in the Driving seat only needing to achieve a Semi Final place at Stilbaai to secure the Title.

The Open Tournament was won by the Four Cousins Living Legends 2 who defeated their fellow Strand based New Borne Rebels in the final 1-0. The surprise package of the Open tournament however was the Sand Warriors who travelled over 7 hours overnight from just outsdie Lamberts Bay to play in this tournament.

The Plate section was won by Team Smurf who beat “Cheers” in the final 5-0.

Perfect conditions greeted 40 teams at Onrus on Monday and the players and spectators made the most of it on the public holiday.

The Onrus sand is notoriously soft and all credit must be given to the players who once again put on an increadible show. The Touch was once again as competitve as ever with tight games accross all competitions being the order of the day…

The Score Energy Warriors topped their group at the end of the Round Robin and they met the Living Legends in the first Semi Final after the “Legends” had lost out on top spot in their pool to the Amazing Galaxy Warriors on try difference.

The top spot in the pool proved to be a big advantage for the Onrus defending champion AGW, who secured what looked to be an easier Semi Final albeit against 2011 Onrus finalists the REDS. This advantage was crucial after a 4-1 victory while the “Legends” were made to work extremely hard only winning their Semi after a Sudden death 1-0 victory over the Score Warriors.

The Final saw some great Touch and the Amazing Galaxy Warriors came out on top with a 2 -1 win in Sudden Death.

The Open Tournament was won by the Beach Lions and the Plate was won by the Unstopables.

The action moves to Struisbaai on Saturday.
